20 September 2019

Schools from regional Western Australia are the shining stars in this year’s MS Readathon.

The top fundraising schools are:

  • Dampier Primary School - $3,259
  • Kulin District High School - $2,942
  • South Bunbury Primary School - $2,738
  • Attadale Primary School - $2,172
  • Manjimup Primary School - $2,155
  • Neerigen Brook Primary School - $1,931
  • Falcon Primary School -$1,144

21,000 students from all over Australia participated in this year’s MS Readathon and read over 75,000 books. In Western Australia over 1900 students signed up to read as much as they could for the month of August, raising over $92,000.

Dampier Primary’s English Leader, Crystal Dickson, said the school strives to develop the whole child.

“Together, we support our students to have a happy mind, healthy body and hardy spirit,” Ms Dickson said.

“The MS Readathon epitomizes each of these values. We believe that the books you read when you are young can live with you forever; they can expand your mind and open your heart. We instil a love for reading in our students so that they can experience the range of emotions that come when plunging into a good book.

The MS Readathon was a vehicle through which students could set reading goals and work towards them while simultaneously developing compassion for others. Being a small rural school, we are immensely proud of our students, their families and the wider community for their fundraising efforts."

MSWA CEO, Marcus Stafford AM, congratulated the schools and their students for the outstanding results and thanked all the students for their fundraising efforts.

“It’s fantastic to see children both enjoying reading and thinking of others in the community,” Mr Stafford said.

“A huge thank you to Dampier Primary School students, teachers and families for supporting the MS Readathon by raising such an impressive amount!”

Congratulations on raising more money than any other school in Western Australia - the funds you’ve raised will certainly make a difference to many.”

Funds raised help children and their families who are living with a neurological condition attend Family Camps and Fun Days. These camps help families spend quality time together in a fun and relaxed environment where they can bond with others who may be sharing their journey. For more information visit
