NDIS Help is at hand at Wilson Open Day

08 October 2018

As the National Disability Scheme (NDIS) continues to roll-out across Perth and the South West, MSWA is holding an open day at its centre in Wilson to help people with their NDIS plans and showcase its latest renovations and upgrades.

For Ros Harman, who was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis more than 30 years ago, and regularly attends the MSWA’s Outreach Program, Wilson is her home away from home.

“It’s great to have everything I need under the one roof, and I’m always greeted with a welcoming smile by Janet at reception. I have regular physiotherapy sessions with Sharon and Ben who help to retain my physical mobility and independence, and occupational therapists are also available at Wilson if I need them,” said Ros.

“I know my NDIS plan will cover my services, but it’s all the extras, like the outstanding facilities, new equipment and the caring staff that add to the experience I enjoy at MSWA.”

MSWA is Western Australia’s leading provider of neurological services and a registered NDIS provider. MSWA’s General Manager – Member Services, Sue Shapland said that for many people with neurological conditions, putting an NDIS plan in place can be daunting.

“We want people to know that at MSWA we’re here to help. We have a team of NDIS experts who can take the stress out of creating an NDIS plan by guiding people through the process, so that they have their own personalised plan, that delivers them the services they need,” said Sue.

“As well as learning more about the NDIS, the Wilson Open Day is the ideal opportunity for people to find out more about the services we deliver, meet our friendly staff, take a tour of our recently renovated and refurbished facility and sit down and enjoy a cuppa and something to eat.”

MSWA’s Wilson facility is 31 years old and the renovations and refurbishments have seen it reconfigured to make the best use of the space and improve the experience for people receiving services such as physiotherapy, occupational therapy and massage.

“The new, upgraded Wilson facility brings a new standard of quality and service for the people we support who live with neurological conditions, and their families and carers. Our physiotherapy gym has been extended to accommodate more equipment, more room for wheelchairs and a more efficient layout for the wide array of exercises we provide for customers,” added Sue.

“The area around hydrotherapy pool – a long-time favourite feature of the Wilson facility for many of our customers, has also been refurbished. And there’s extra off-road parking for visitors and more workstations for our rapidly growing workforce.”

The MSWA Wilson Open Day is on Friday October 12 from 10am-1pm at 29 Parkhill Way, Wilson. The activities include displays and demonstrations, a talk on nutrition and complimentary refreshments.
