MSWA is proud to announce the official opening of a new $8m Service Centre and Supported Accommodation facility for people living with a neurological condition in Butler and surrounding areas.
Butler provides a range of services including physiotherapy, occupational therapy, nursing, speech pathology, dietetics, counselling, social welfare services and peer group sessions. The new Service Centre is also a base for staff co-ordinating home support.
24-hour 7-day a week care is also offered as an option for those who can no longer stay in their own home to cater for 10 of MSWA’s high-support Customers. This is an age appropriate option for younger people who would otherwise be at risk of entering aged care facilities, due to their high care needs.
The official opening of Butler was supported by Disability Services Minister, Hon. Stephen Dawson and MSWA CEO, Marcus Stafford AM.
“MSWA has a number of Service Centres in metropolitan and regional Perth, but we saw a need to provide a high-support accommodation option in Perth’s Northern Suburbs,” said Mr Stafford.
“The number of people using our high-support accommodation facilities has significantly increased and it’s important that we can continue increasing our footprint to enable us to provide support and services for people experiencing the effects of disability.”
Mr Stafford said Butler was part of the organisation’s long-term strategic growth plan which will continue to develop a network of facilities, covering both the metropolitan and regional areas.
“With its state-of-the-art facilities and passionate staff, Butler will be a valued asset for the local people living with a neurological condition for years to come.”
Kate Gild, diagnosed with MS when she was 33 years old, has been loving her new home at Butler. “Before the move, I was living in Treendale for almost three years and my life was fine but it was just so far away from my friends and family,” Kate said.
“It makes me appreciate the simple things like having friends over for a coffee or going to my parents’ house which has proved difficult whilst living regionally. The on-site care and support allows me to lead a fulfilling and independent life – I can take myself to physiotherapy sessions or go grocery shopping and I can’t begin to tell you what that means to me.”
Currently, MSWA has 14 facilities across Western Australia, with ambitious plans to increase that to more than 20 within the next few years.
Mr Stafford said a major building program is planned to manage the demand over the coming years across metropolitan and regional Western Australia.
“In the not-too-distant future we’re also looking to establish high-support accommodation facilities in Albany and Shenton Park as well. We want to increase the number of services we provide to our Members, their families and carers,” said Mr Stafford.
“Without the support of Western Australians, the opening of Butler would not have been possible,” he added.
