Life-changing phone calls

Grand prize winners David and family with MSWA CEO Melanie Kiely

MSWA recently made some life-changing phone calls to everyday West Australians, informing them of their lucky win in the Mega Home Lottery. This included family man David, who was pinching himself when he received the news of winning the $3.6 million Grand Prize.

David, along with his wife Julie and daughter Jo, were in awe of their stunning new abode. The $3.1 million Marmion home was just mere minutes from the beach and had been newly renovated by award-winning renovators, Lux Interiors.

“I received the phone call and thought somebody was pulling my leg! It still hasn’t sunk in for me yet that this is ours!” David exclaimed.

This is the tenth year in a row David has supported the Mega Home Lottery and when asked why he has supported the cause year after year, David commented, “The biggest reason why I continue to buy tickets is because of MSWA’s focus on research and to ultimately find a cure.

“MSWA is also helping people with neurological conditions in the community. They’re approaching it from both ends and that for me, means a lot, and why I’ve supported them for the past few years.”

Jo, David’s daughter also shared their family’s story of moving to Western Australia and starting life from scratch.

“About 10 years ago, mum and dad uprooted their whole life to look after their son’s children. They have been grandparents raising grandchildren, and it hasn’t been easy,” she said.

“This couldn’t have happened to two more deserving people. This is going to make a world of difference to them and their grandchildren, who will now be looked after for the rest of their lives.”

Earlier this year, Raelene became the newest resident of North Fremantle, having won the Early Bird Prize of the $1.6 million fully refurbished apartment. It was the twelfth year in a row that Raelene, and her partner, Rick, had supported the cause.

“There’s nothing better than the feeling that you’ve contributed… it’s such a worthy cause. I’ll continue to encourage others to buy a ticket,” Raelene said.

We’re evidence that ordinary people can win!

Alongside the Early Bird Prize and the Grand Prize winners, there were also 15,000 other lucky winners who took home a range of amazing prizes, including electronics, holidays, cash prizes and gift vouchers.

This is the first time we’ve extended the invitation to staff members from across our organisation to ring some of our major prize winners and inform them of the good news. It was definitely a special moment for our team!

Our People and Culture Officer, Madii, made a call to one of our $10,000 cash prize winners, who was beyond ecstatic to have won the prize, “Oh my gosh, you’re joking? I had told my partner we would win something, and it actually happened!”

Our Marketing Officer, Sam, also spoke to the winner of our Antarctica Trip for Two, valued at $16,000, “It’s my first time winning something this big. It’s beyond my wildest dreams and I’m so excited for my trip!”
