MSWA website accessibility statement

Our commitment to accessibility

At MSWA, we believe that everyone should be able to access the information and services we provide, regardless of their abilities or the technology they use.

We are committed to ensuring our website is inclusive and accessible for all people, including those living with disability, older people and anyone using assistive technologies.

Our website has been designed and developed with the internationally recognised Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA in mind. These internationally recognised guidelines, developed by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), outline how to make web content more accessible for people with disabilities and improve the user experience for everyone.

Accessibility is an ongoing process and we are continually reviewing and improving our website to ensure it remains usable, functional and accessible.

How we support accessibility

We have incorporated a range of features and practices to make our website easier to use and navigate for as many people as possible:

  • Colour contrast that meets WCAG 2.1 AA requirements to improve readability for users with low vision or colour blindness.
  • Keyboard navigation so all menus, links and forms can be accessed without a mouse.
  • Clear page structure using correctly ordered headings (H1–H6) and semantic HTML to help screen readers interpret content.
  • Alternative text for images so that users who cannot see images can still understand their purpose.
  • Descriptive link text that clearly explains where a link will take you.
  • Accessible forms with clear labels, instructions and error messages to help all users complete them successfully.
  • Compatibility with assistive technologies such as screen readers, screen magnifiers and speech recognition software.

We also conduct regular reviews of our website using both automated tools and manual testing to identify and address accessibility issues. These reviews help us ensure that new content and features meet accessibility standards.

Accessible format for documents

While we aim to make all content accessible, some documents particularly PDFs, may not fully meet WCAG 2.1 AA standards.

If you require a document in a more accessible format, please contact us at [email protected]

Content from our Bulletin publication (starting Makuru Winter 2024 onwards) is also published in the News and Article section of our website. Please reach out if you would like direct links to the accessible web versions. For previous editions, please contact us to request rich text versions.

We are also working to improve our PDFs by:

  • Adding meta descriptions.
  • Attaching rich text files where possible.

Contact us

If you experience any difficulty accessing content on our website or have an accessibility-related enquiry or feedback, please get in touch:

Email: [email protected]

We will aim to provide a response or solution within 3 business days.

Known limitations

While we work to ensure our website is accessible, there are some areas that may not yet meet WCAG 2.1 AA standards:

  • Some older PDF documents may not be fully accessible.
  • Certain third-party content or embedded tools may not meet our accessibility standards.

We are actively working to address these areas and provide alternative formats where possible.

Continuous improvements

Accessibility is not a one-time task; it is an ongoing commitment.

We are continually looking for ways to improve our website’s accessibility, including exploring tools and services that can enhance the user experience for people with disabilities.

We welcome feedback from our community and stakeholders to help us identify opportunities for improvement.
