National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS)
The NDIS is a Government scheme which aims to connect Australians with disability to services in the community.
The NDIS provides funding to eligible people with disability to gain more time with family and friends, greater independence and an improved quality of life.
What is the NDIS?
You are eligible to apply for the NDIS if you:
-
Are under 65 years of age at the time of applying for the NDIS
-
Are an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or Protected Special Category Visa holder who lives in Australia
-
Have an impairment or condition that is likely to be permanent.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need an NDIS plan?
To help determine if you need an NDIS plan, you might consider your answers to the below questions:
- Does your condition affect your ability to take part in activities around the home?
- Does your condition impact your mobility? (strength, balance, ability to walk)
- Can you think of any support that could make your life easier?
- Do you need support now to reduce your support needs in the future?
Who decides if I can access the NDIS?
When you have provided all necessary information as part of the application process, the National Disability Insurance Agency will make a decision about whether you are eligible for the National Disability Insurance Scheme. The National Disability Insurance Agency is a government body, which is not connected in any way to MSWA.
You can find out more about this process on the NDIS website.
What if I'm not eligible for the NDIS?
MSWA will continue to work with you to identify the best service options available to your specific needs.
Is MSWA connected to the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS)?
No. The National Disability Insurance Scheme is a government scheme that provides funding for services.
MSWA is a service provider that provides services funded under the scheme.
MSWA is a not-for-profit, non-government organisation which provides services and supports which can be accessed through NDIS or other funding.
