Residential Respite
If you’re caring for someone living with a neurological condition, you may occasionally feel the need for a break. If you’re being cared for, you may want your carer to take some time off to rest and recharge, while you have a break from your normal routine.

What is MSWA Respite?
Respite is built to meet the needs of people living with neurological conditions, including those with high-care needs. They are a ‘home away-from-home’, comfortably appointed with on-site 24/7 care and support and home-cooked meals. Respite is available to all MSWA Clients in need of a short-term break from normal living arrangements. Funding to cover your stay may be available.
When can I access respite?
Most Clients accessing our respite homes will stay for one or two weeks, or longer depending on their needs. We require a booking with at least four weeks’ notice for your first visit and two weeks for any subsequent visits. This allows our team to best support your needs.
Prior to your visit, a nurse will be in contact to complete a nursing assessment.
Most Clients accessing our respite homes will stay for one or two weeks, or longer depending on needs. Funding to cover your stay may be available through your Home Care Package (HCP) or National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) individual package. Speak to your support coordinator or Client Liaison Coordinator (CLC) directly about funding for respite.
A booking can be made by yourself, family member, your MSWA Support Coordinator, CLC or our MSWA Allied Health team.

Transcript (Residential Respite: Treendale Gardens)
Hi, I'm Paula. I'm the manager at MSWA in Treendale.
We're currently sitting in the respite building. Respite is for people looking for a short-stay break - perhaps their carers need some time off, or they have something they need to do in the area. People come and stay with us for anything from one night to two or three weeks.
Generally, there is 24/7 care provided by support workers. We also have nurses here during the day, and there’s always someone on call 24/7. Anyone with a neurological condition can access respite here.
It’s a six-room respite facility, with each pair of rooms sharing a bathroom. Guests can come out to the main dining area and enjoy their meals there, or choose to have them in their rooms.
Staff and clients often spend time together enjoying a range of activities like games, puzzles, quizzes, and reading. Treendale is really well located as a gateway to the South West. Just nearby, there’s a beautiful park with wheelchair-accessible pathways. Clients are welcome to go out and explore the local area or take a taxi for some sightseeing or visiting.
One of the reasons people stay here is because they have family or close friends who live in the South West. They can stay with us while their loved ones come to visit.
Sometimes, the allied health team will coordinate care - if someone is coming in for respite, we might arrange for an occupational therapist, physiotherapist, or speech pathologist to visit them here as well.
Our care support workers make all the meals, and I think you’ll find that many of the staff here have a great sense of humor and connect really well with the clients. It’s not just a job to them - they genuinely enjoy being here and supporting the people they care for. There’s a real sense of community among the staff.
Anytime you're down in the area and would like a tour before booking a respite stay, just give us a call and arrange a time. We'll make sure someone is available to show you around.
