Kylie & Brett: Life changing luxury
In 2020, Kylie Jones became the first ever MSWA Client to win the grand prize in the MSWA Mega Home Lottery, receiving the call that she had won the $3.3 million package with her husband Brett.
While the beautiful City Beach home oozed luxury, unfortunately its standard layout didn’t cater for someone living with MS and posed significant challenges for Kylie’s mobility – a reality that has since inspired MSWA to place greater emphasis on accessibility in grand prize homes.
However, the lottery win gave the couple the freedom to then create something truly life changing.
“We wanted a home that worked for us, not one that we had to work around. We focused on ensuring it would support us for years to come as Kylie’s needs change,” explained Brett.
The couple made the big decision to sell the City Beach house and custom design their own dream home - future-proofed and luxurious. Kylie, who was diagnosed with MS in her early 30s, knew the importance of accessible home design. She not only wanted something liveable, but also a home which her large family and future generations could enjoy.
Completed in 2023, Kylie and Brett’s new home seamlessly integrates accessibility within all aspects of the house, whilst still retaining aesthetic value.
Design decisions were made with guidance from the MSWA Occupational Therapy team. While not interior designers, their expertise helped shape a cohesive and stylish space that also supports Kylie’s independence and mobility well into the future.
Some amazing features the couple installed were a mineral pool to aid with therapy, additional beams for future hoist installations, large entry ways and wider doorframes built directly into the slab for wheelchair access.
