Carers Week works wonders
In October, we recognised the amazing work of our unpaid carers as part of National Carers Week.
We know through our research that carers of people with neurological conditions (often family, friends and loved ones) really need our support now more than ever. To acknowledge this important unpaid role, we held three new events to give carers a chance for respite, to focus on their own self-care – and an opportunity to re-fill their cup after spending so much time looking out for others.
The free, half-day retreats were open to anyone aged 13 and over, and included Pilates, Physio-Chi, a light lunch and a mindfulness session – all thanks to our amazing MSWA Physiotherapy and Counselling teams.
"I attended the Fremantle Carers Day event with my two sisters - it was the first time in so long that we allowed ourselves to truly disconnect from our caring roles and simply enjoy the day together," Carers Week attendee.
The event was beautifully organised, with every detail thoughtfully considered.
Each event was thoughtfully held at a different location, away from our Services Centres, to help create a true sense of rest and relaxation.
Most importantly, the sessions offered a chance to connect with others who understand the carer journey – and to take a moment just for themselves.
We thank the amazing MSWA team who facilitated these events and gave our community a moment to relax and reflect – we can’t wait to see what you have planned for
next year.
