"There's no quitting" Peter's employment journey

Peter ‘Wellsy’ Wells knew something wasn’t quite right when he experienced temporary vision loss while driving. Along with this, he also suffered from headaches, fatigue and hot flushes.
(L-R) MSWA Client, Peter Wells and MSWA Employment Support Consultant, Peta Flynn.

He was later diagnosed with MS and everything clicked, and as a father of four young children, his job security became a high concern.

“After I was diagnosed, I met the lovely people at MSWA, including Peta and Leigh from the Employment Support Services team,” Peter said.

Through the dedicated support of Specialist Employment Consultant, Peta, Peter accessed healthcare services to improve his mobility, received equipment to make his job more manageable, and secured employment that was of interest to him.

“Peta helped me with all the paperwork to get onto the NDIS and I’ve since found a physio that has helped me rebuild my muscle strength, taking me from borderline wheelchair to standing again and back on the tools.”

MSWA’s Employment Support Services (ESS) team offers high quality care and support to people living with a progressive and degenerative neurological condition, facilitating positive employment outcomes.

“My journey with Peter has been a really wonderful experience for myself and I hope for Peter too,” Peta said joyfully.

“You can experience a lot of physical barriers with MS and we find ways in the Work Assist program to help our Clients succeed in the workplace. This program is really holistic, we look at all the different elements that affect the way our Client’s perform at work.”

Peter reflected on the assistance he received from MSWA, and the difference it has made to his work, personal and family life.

It’s not the end of the road. Your path may change but you can still get to a destination, there’s no quitting.

Unlike other Disability Employment Support providers, MSWA’s ESS team uniquely consists of qualified allied health professionals, who have the experience and expertise to provide clinical advice to Clients. Best of all, there is no out-of-pocket expense to access this service as it is funded by the Federal Government.
