Social welfare and disability support
Living with a neurological condition or disability can affect many areas of a person’s life. Changes in mobility, communication, thinking, independence and everyday activities can create challenges for individuals, families and carers. Finding the right support can also be complicated, particularly when people need to navigate different services across health, disability, community and social welfare systems.
Social welfare supports people with disability and their family to understand the services and options available to them and connects them to the right support. While the NDIS provides important support for many people with permanent and significant disability, not everyone is eligible for a NDIS plan.
MSWA Social Welfare can provide guidance and information across a range of areas, including, income support, housing, community programs, aged care and advocacy. The aim is to help people understand what supports available, which service or organisation is best placed to assist and what steps to take to access that support.
For people living with neurological conditions such as stroke, multiple sclerosis, cerebral palsy, spinal cord injury, Parkinson’s disease, motor neurone disease or brain injury, support needs can change over time. People may move between hospital, rehabilitation, home and community services and their circumstances may change as their condition or support needs change.
MSWA Social welfare support can help people navigate these changes by providing clear information, helping to understand options and connecting with appropriate services and providers. This may include referrals to disability advocacy services, financial counsellors, Centrelink social workers, housing and community services, peer support groups and condition-specific organisations.
Families and carers can also benefit from social welfare support. Understanding available services and knowing where to turn for assistance can help reduce the confusion and stress that can come with navigating complex support systems.
We’re here to help
MSWA Social Welfare is here to help you find and connect with the right support. By providing information, guidance and referrals, social welfare can help people feel more confident in navigating available services and making decisions about their own lives.
Social Welfare support is about individual choice, empowerment and connection. It helps people with disability and neurological conditions, along with their families and carers, understand their options, access appropriate services and remain connected to their community. The goal is to make it easier for people to get the support they need to live as safely, independently and meaningfully as possible.
