Hollister’s product factory visit

MSWA Continence Nurse Specialist, Dee Lucey recently visited Hollister’s state-of-the-art product factory in Ballina, Ireland.

In today’s fast-paced and ever-evolving healthcare landscape, collaboration between healthcare professionals and product manufacturers is crucial to ensure that medical products are effective, safe and patient-centered.

Through her visit, she gained a deeper understanding of the manufacturing processes behind medical products, from raw material sources to final production. By engaging directly with the factory team, she was able to observe first-hand how products are designed, tested, and produced.

Clinicians bring a wealth of practical knowledge to the table, offering valuable insights into how products perform in clinical settings. This feedback loop helps manufacturers refine their processes and ensures that products meet the high standards required for patient safety and therapeutic efficacy.

During the visit, Dee was also given an exclusive tour of the factory’s quality control processes, which are critical to ensuring the safety, durability, and effectiveness of continence products. By understanding the testing and regulatory requirements that the factory adheres to, Dee gained an insight into the products that can be recommended.

Fostering collaborative relationships

Through this visit, we fostered a stronger partnership with product manufacturers to encourage a two-way exchange of knowledge.

Our clinicians gained insight into new technological advancements, manufacturing techniques, and regulatory developments that may impact on the products they use. While manufacturers can benefit from the expertise our team can provide in assessing product effectiveness, safety, and patient satisfaction.

Benefits to MSWA Clients

“The goal of my visit was to improve Client care,” commented Dee.

By connecting with manufacturers, MSWA clinicians can advocate for product features that address our Clients’ needs. Whether it’s enhancing product usability, ensuring better patient compliance, or incorporating feedback on product performance. These visits ensure that products are designed with the end-user in mind.

Through the input of our team, we can help shape the future of healthcare innovation and meaningfully impact patient outcomes.

Clinician visits to product factories are a part of the ongoing effort to bridge the gap between clinical practice and medical product development.

As healthcare and manufacturing sectors continue to intersect, such visits represent a commitment to a shared goal: improving the lives of patients through innovative, high-quality and patient-centered medical products.
