First Tysabri administration at MSWA
We’re proud to share the experience of MSWA Client Max*, who was the first to access the Tysabri treatment at an MSWA service centre.
MSWA nurses can now administer Tysabri, a Disease Modifying Therapy (DMT) for MS, across our service centres. Traditionally given in hospital settings, this treatment is now available as a subcutaneous injection administered by a healthcare professional.
Max, a long-term Client from Busselton, recently took advantage of this new service at our Vasse Services Hub in the South West. Previously, Max had to travel to a hospital in Bunbury for his treatment - a process that involved a two-hour travel time, along with a considerable waiting and observation period, often requiring him to take time off work.
Max was ecstatic with the new service, finding it much more convenient. His entire appointment took just an hour of his time, and he appreciated the relaxed atmosphere at our Vasse Service Centre, a welcome change from the busy hospital environment.
Two MSWA registered nurses were present to ensure all procedures met clinical standards. Max is already booked for his next six-weekly appointment at a time that is convenient for him.
If you’re interested in this new service, call our Nursing Support Line on 9365 4888 to find out more. Personalised consultations are essential for optimal care, so it is important for individuals with MS to discuss with their medical team to identify the most suitable treatment for their specific situation.
