Emergency and crisis planning
During an emergency or a period of crisis, it is critical that you have a plan that will help guide you, your loved ones and even emergency services to ensure your health and safety. This is important for older Australians, those with disabilities or people with complex health needs leading into the summer months.
Having a RediPlan can help in the following ways:
- Safety and security
Defining a clear Crisis or Emergency Plan will ensure that you, your family and support services (including MSWA) will have a shared understanding of personal and agreed safety protocols during emergencies. This reduces confusion and provides clear guidance on necessary actions to take.
- Personalised support
We know that each person has specific needs or requirements. A plan tailored to your personal circumstances ensures that your individual and unique health, mobility or care needs are met.
- Resource accessibility
Crisis or Emergency Plans can outline access to necessary resources, such as medical supplies, medications and transportation options, making it easier for you to seek assistance.
- Reducing anxiety
Knowing there is a clear plan can reduce anxiety and provide peace of mind. People generally feel more secure when they understand how to protect themselves in different scenarios and are reassured that organisations like MSWA understand and can activate your Crisis or Emergency Plan if needed.
- Community support and awareness
Encouraging people to develop such plans fosters community awareness and responsiveness. This can strengthen your networks of support and ensure that your neighbours, friends, community providers and emergency services are all aware of your needs and prepared to assist during any crisis.
- Post-emergency recovery
A RediPlan not only addresses your immediate safety but also aids in recovery. By outlining steps for accessing health, support services and mental health resources, you can be better equipped to navigate post-disaster challenges.
MSWA wants you to be as safe as possible, especially leading into the upcoming bushfire season. For our high-risk Clients, with your consent, your CLC or another member of the MSWA team will reach out to you and support you to develop a RediPlan that will meet your needs.
We strongly encourage all our Clients to build a RediPlan and share it with MSWA so we can support you through any unplanned emergency, disaster or crisis.
MSWA is happy to help you create a RediPlan, so please reach out to your CLC if you need support. Our Nursing team will also ask you about this RediPlan when building your individualised care plans.
