Creating connections at MSWA After Hours

I used to think no one looks like me, no one is having the same experiences as me, but then I met someone [at After Hours] who had been diagnosed earlier than me. I told him how I've been feeling and his eyes just lit up. He said, ‘That’s exactly how I felt!’ It was such a relief.” Sophie, 28, living with MS

As human beings, there are so many things that make us unique and special – and sometimes we have a tendency to focus on the things that make us different. But really, there is something that binds us all: a want to feel seen, heard, supported – a place to belong… And maybe also the universal desire for a sneaky drink after work!

That’s what MSWA After Hours is all about, the chance to meet other like-minded working professionals navigating a neurological diagnosis in a fun, easy-going setting (complete with cocktails) to create a community of support.

We know there are many people living with MS and other neuro conditions in our community who require low-to-no direct care services from MSWA – thanks to the amazing leaps in treatment options made possible through research. But what these guys are missing is the opportunity to connect with others on a similar journey – figuring out who you are amidst a diagnosis while juggling work, kids and everything else life has to throw at you.

With support from our partners at State Buildings, we started trailing the After Hours concept in late 2024 and have proudly watched our crew grow steadily over time – receiving feedback that this concept filled a gap that existed for far too long.

Our Perth group currently meets every second month and new faces are always welcome!

We are now proud to announce that after the success of our Perth trial, we are looking to create new groups in the South-West (Bunbury and/or Margaret River) and Peel regions (Mandurah and/or Rockingham).

If you live in these areas and are keen to get involved – or know someone who is – jump online and express your interest visit https://mswa.org.au/mswa-after-hours

Thank you again to State Buildings for helping to make this program possible, your support is invaluable.
