2024 MSNA Annual Conference: MSWA nurses shine
The 2024 Multiple Sclerosis Nurses Australasia (MSNA) Annual Conference, held in Brisbane, showcased the dynamic and dedicated work of MS nurses. MSNA, the peak body for MS nurses in the Southern Hemisphere, continues to provide invaluable education, support, and advocacy for MS Nurses and other healthcare professionals.
Representing MSWA at this prestigious event were four members of our Nursing team: Nimisha Baird (Clinical Nurse Manager – Regional), Dee Lucey (Clinical Nurse Manager – Metro), Challis Wilson (Neurological Liaison Nurse – Metro), and Emily Koop (Neurological Liaison Nurse – Regional).
Celebrating excellence in MS nursing practice
MSNA provides a unique opportunity for MS nurses to share their research and clinical advancements. Challis Wilson and Emily Koop were selected to present their research in the form of posters and their work was well-received and earned high commendations.
Challis Wilson presented on Neuropathic Pain, a key issue in MS care, demonstrating her dedication to improving pain management strategies. Emily Koop’s poster, titled Incontinence-Associated Dermatitis vs Pressure Injuries: The Difference and Why It Matters, offered invaluable insights into the prevention and management of skin integrity in MS patients. In a remarkable achievement, Challis Wilson won the overall award for ‘Best Presentation Poster’, a testament to the outstanding quality of her work and her commitment to advancing MS nursing practice.
Networking at the forefront
The conference provided an excellent opportunity for MSWA’s Clinical Nurse Managers, Dee Lucey and Nimisha Baird, to establish networks with fellow MS professionals from across the country.
The MSWA Nursing team’s presence at MSNA was a proud moment, showcasing the incredible work in WA. From improving clinical outcomes to driving evidence based practice, the team leads the way in transforming the lives of people with MS.
Looking ahead
As MSWA continues to support individuals with MS and neurological conditions, the insights gained from events like the MSNA Annual Conference will be instrumental in enhancing our services. Our nurses’ involvement in the conference highlights their dedication to clinical excellence.
In addition to her role at MSWA, Dee Lucey has taken on the voluntary position of State Delegate for MSNA. This important role enables Dee to serve as a key advocate for MS nurses and allied health professionals in her state.
We congratulate Challis, Emily, Nimisha, and Dee for their contributions to this year’s MSNA Annual Conference and look forward to their continued leadership in MS nursing.
