Peta shines bright at the National CoAct Awards
MSWA’s very own Peta Flynn has been honoured with the Bright Star Award – Disability Employment Services, for her innovative and exceptional contribution to our neurological community at the CoAct Connect Up National Conference in Brisbane.
The CoAct Award recognises a new employment consultant across the CoAct network nationally that demonstrates innovative thinking and has made an exceptional contribution to the team. Peta currently works as a Specialist Employment Consultant within our MSWA Employment Support Service (ESS) team, which offers high quality care and support to over 50 Clients living with a progressive and degenerative neurological condition, to facilitate positive employment outcomes for a job they are interested in and passionate about.
Peta has a range of clinical qualifications including a Bachelor of Science (Psychology) and Master of Occupational Therapy. Her dedication to our Clients shines through her innovative approach of integrating evidence-based cognitive rehabilitation with high quality vocational care, to support individuals living with neurological conditions such as MS, Parkinson’s disease and motor neuron disease (MND).
“What I enjoy most about my role is that we take a holistic approach to service delivery. A big part of vocational rehabilitation is being proactive, not reactive. I get to work closely with Clients to unpack what is really going on and get to know them on a deeper level," Peta said.
“A great advantage of working at MSWA is that we have a multidisciplinary team, and I work with other allied health professionals to ensure our Clients receive holistic care.” When asked what sets MSWA’s ESS services apart from others, Peta mentions, “all members of the ESS team are qualified clinicians. This gives us an advantage as we have the background and experience to provide clinical advice to our Clients.”
Peta is “incredibly humbled” to have received the award and is grateful for all the compliments she has received from Clients. She's also appreciative to be working in a supportive and collaborative team. Peta would like to thank her manager, Leigh McCaffrey, as well as colleagues Sarah Coutinho and Tamara McWhirter, with whom she worked closely to deliver the MEMORehab program.
Congratulations Peta on your achievement and remarkable work!
