MSWA Bunbury will open its doors to the community on Friday, 26 October to enjoy a friendly ‘cuppa’ with team members and view its state-of-the-art facilities for people living with neurological conditions.
The open day will feature demonstrations of equipment and a tour of the purpose-designed centre at 1 Mason Street, Davenport.
This MSWA Community and Health Services Centre in Bunbury opened last year to provide a wide range of services, from physiotherapy to occupational and speech therapy, nursing, counselling and an Outreach Group.
Senior Community Access Nurse Nimisha Baird said the centre had seen “phenomenal” growth in customer demand since it opened in January 2017.
“People who were not attending our old centre in Bunbury are now coming to our new premises to access services or take part in outreach activities,” said Nimisha.
“Our new centre has so much to offer. It’s bright, welcoming and staffed with an expanded multidisciplinary healthcare team to provide personalised services for the unique needs of each person we support.”
The MSWA team at Bunbury is also helping to answer growing numbers of people with their questions about the NDIS, a national scheme for people under the age of 65 living with permanent and significant disabilities.
As a registered provider under the NDIS, MSWA offers a comprehensive range of services for people living with all neurological conditions, such as acquired Brain Injury, Huntington’s Disease, Motor Neurone Disease, MS, Parkinson’s Disease and Stroke.
People like Yvette Cocivera, who has an NDIS plan, can choose MSWA to access the services they need.
Yvette, who has lived with MS since the age of 27, receives services from MSWA Bunbury through her NDIS plan. She is also a part-time employee at MSWA Bunbury.
“MSWA helped organise my NDIS plan and made the whole process really easy. It’s the extra time and effort they spend with you, that makes you feel confident you’re getting funding for the services you need,” said Yvette.
“MSWA and the NDIS have enabled me to continue working to provide for my family. I feel like our future is much brighter.”
The nationally-delivered NDIS started roll-out in the South West (Bunbury Capel, Collie, Dardanup, Harvey and Waroona) from 1 October 2018. MSWA’s Bunbury centre is ideally positioned to serve the needs of people living in this area.
