Support groups

Finding out you have a neurological condition can be quite daunting, but it helps to know you’re not alone. MSWA offer supports and information to help you better understand and cope with your condition.

One-to-one counselling

MSWA’s Counselling Service provides private counselling sessions for people diagnosed with neurological conditions. You can have a confidential one-to-one session, or you can be accompanied by family members or friends.

Meet and greet sessions for recently diagnosed with MS

Several times a year we run meet and greet sessions for people recently diagnosed with a neurological condition.

These sessions, which are held according to demand, provide an opportunity to get together and share experiences and concerns.

Therapeutic support services

MSWA employs a team of university-trained counselling practitioners, some with specialist qualifications, who offer a range of support. Counselling doesn’t not always need to be ‘one-on-one’.
Our therapeutic groups offer the value of being with others to share experiences.

There are a range of groups on offer, including:

  • Therapeutic art therapy
  • Expressive therapies
  • Family therapy
  • Journaling
  • Mindfulness meditation
  • Psycho-education information sessions (e.g. stress reduction)
  • Play therapy
  • Sound therapy
  • Therapeutic writing groups

Contact our MSWA counselling department on 08 9365 4811 or our peer support officer on 08 9365 4858 to find out more about what we offer.

Other support organisations

Besides MSWA, a number of organisations exist in Western Australia to support people with neurological conditions. These include:
