A huge honour for MSWA Board Director

15 October 2013

One of Australia’s most prominent neurologists, and Board Director at the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Western Australia, Professor William Carroll, has been appointed to the highly prestigious position of First Vice President of the World Federation of Neurologists (WFN).

Professor Carroll, who is based at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital, has been an active member of the WFN for 12 years, and has spent 15 years of his life dedicated to raising the profile of multiple sclerosis research, as well as working on finding the cause and cure for the disease.

Professor Carroll said that he was “honoured and humbled by his nomination, and that he would endeavour to adopt a balance of experience, energy and teamwork to this position.”

Professor Carroll has stated clear goals and objectives to maintain and grow sustainable funding for the WFN. Professor Carroll notes that the key to overcoming challenges currently experienced in the difficult political and financial times ‘is the internal strength of the WFN.’

One of the MS research projects Professor Carroll is currently involved in is a world first clinical trial to investigate the role vitamin D could play in preventing MS. The Multiple Sclerosis Society of WA is the major funder of this research project, which is taking place across Australia and New Zealand.

“We’re very proud to have Professor Carroll on our Board of Directors. To have his professionalism and skills recognised at an international level is indeed a great honour,” said David Bugden, General Manager – Brand, Marketing & Sales at the MS Society of Western Australia.
