George Leathley has been a volunteer at the Multiple Sclerosis Society of WA (MSWA) for almost nine years, alongside his wife Jeanette. George also volunteers for the Gosnells Football Club and the Addie Mills Centre.

The Gosnells Football Club nominated George for the City of Gosnells Citizen of the Year award for his outstanding and ongoing contribution to the community, which was awarded at the Australia Day Awards Ceremony. Upon receiving the award, George’s reaction can be defined by one word: proud.

“I was proud to receive recognition for over 50 years of service, and proud to be a life member of the Gosnells Football Club,” said George.

For almost nine years, George and Jeanette have volunteered three days a week at MSWA and plan to carry on volunteering for as long as they can.

“The love of the organisation and the people we volunteer with is why we are still volunteering. As long as MSWA needs us, we will be here”

MSWA CEO Marcus Stafford said that George was very worthy of receiving this prestigious award.

“George is an amazing man. He has given so many years to volunteering and we look forward to him continuing with us for many more years to come,” said Marcus.
