Learning about conditions

Neurological conditions are disorders affecting the brain, spinal cord, eyes and nerves throughout the body. Some neurological conditions are hereditary and some can be present from birth or childhood. They can be of sudden onset (e.g. stroke) or develop over time (e.g. multiple sclerosis).

They may fluctuate or progress and some can shorten a person’s life expectancy.

While there are no known cures for most neurological conditions, many have drug treatments and/or therapies to help manage the effects and/or symptoms.

However, research efforts in Australia and around the world continue to lead to greater understanding of the causes, better treatments and in the future, cures or prevention strategies.
