The Welfare Officer has a sound understanding of social welfare policy in Western Australia and is able to guide and advise on what supports are available for people on low incomes and with disability, and how to access those supports.

The Welfare Officer will:

  • Provide information on financial support, primarily involving how to access Centrelink and understanding their range of benefit programs;
  • Provide information and support to access home care help and carer respite funding;
  • Locate services and supports to enable a person with Multiple Sclerosis to maintain their optimum level of independence;
  • Advocate on behalf of the Member or carer when they feel unable to deal with difficult or complex situations, usually involving financial matters;
  • Liaise with and refer to other community agencies for the delivery of services.
