MS symptoms vary greatly from person to person and from time to time in the same person.

These may include blurred or double vision, unusual fatigue, problems with walking caused by stiffness, weakness or imbalance, sensory problems like numbness, tingling, and pain; problems with bladder and bowel control; changes in sexual function; emotional changes and changes in memory and thinking.

While some individuals will experience only one or two of these symptoms, others may experience most or all of them at one time or another.

Whilst some symptoms are quite visible, such as a stiff leg when walking, the hidden symptoms are often more troublesome as whilst you “look OK” your fatigue may significantly restrict your ability to do some of the things you would like to. Our Occupational Therapists can advise you on fatigue.

Treatment of your symptoms is essential as these can negatively impact on many aspects of your quality of life. Your MSWA nurse or allied health professionals can provide both information and advice to assist you with managing many of these symptoms such as fatigue and continence issues.

Your neurologist can also prescribe medications that can make a real difference, for example for pain or stiffness.
