Flexible Respite Program

The Flexible Respite Program, a Disability Services Commission block funded program, seeks to assist those caring for people with disabilities resulting from MS or similar neurological conditions by providing flexible short term respite options.

Clients must be eligible for DSC services and this program's entry criterion.

The allocation of time limited supports, either in or out of home, allows us to better assist those looking after loved ones with fluctuating care needs common for this target group. We aim to provide quality support opportunities for the person with the disability whilst giving the carer a much needed break.

The types of respite available are flexible in order to better meet the particular individual’s needs and preferences of the person with a disability and their carer:

  • In home respite with skilled care support workers able to assist with personal care in accordance with the individual’s care plan whilst the carer is away from home;
  • Residential respite can be sourced where possible and is provided in purpose-built homely facilities where individuals can stay for up to one to two weeks, with access to 24 hour per day support;
  • Centre based respite offers a range of activities within a friendly supported environment; available when there is sufficient demand for this service.
