Margaret Doody House, City Beach
A home away from home in a happy relaxed atmosphere, the Society's Respite House is located in City Beach, close to local shops.
Margaret Doody House is a five bedroomed house which can accommodate up to five people (plus one emergency bed). It was purpose built, therefore the facility is accessible and air conditioned throughout. There is a large screen TV, computer access and a pleasant outdoor area.
The length of stay is usually 1 to 2 weeks and a daily charge is made to cover food and laundry. Longer stays can be arranged subject to availability.
The house is staffed on a 24 hour basis with care support workers who have received training through the Society.
Medical needs of a resident are accommodated through generic services.
The aim of respite is to enable the Member to have a "holiday" and to enable their family to have a break from their caring role. Respite is also used if the primary Carer is ill, subject to bed availability.
Clients with other comparable neurological conditions may apply to stay at Margaret Doody House however, require a detailed assessment before being offered a place to ensure that the needs of that person can be met during their stay.
Funding to cover all or part of the daily cost can be sourced through the Commonwealth Carer Respite Centres prior to the stay. Information regarding funding is available by ringing 1800 059 059 or contacting the Society’s Welfare Assistant on 9365 4835.
