Peer Support

Peer support occurs when people are linked by common experiences, share empathy, understanding and support. Talking to someone who has been through similar events can be empowering and effective.

The Peer Support Program links people who are newly diagnosed with MS to other people with MS who understand the complexity of the disease from first hand experience.

The members providing support are Peer Support Volunteers who are specially trained by the MS Society.

All conversations are confidential, however any major concerns are discussed with the Peer Support Coordinator for supervision and assistance.

The benefits of peer support include:

  • Helps empower people to feel more in control of their lives
  • Provides support and someone with whom frustrations, anxieties, concerns or stresses may be shared.
  • Helps reduce feelings of isolation
  • Provides a positive role model

Peer Support can either be over the phone or face to face. Please contact the Peer Support Coordinator on 9385 4808.
