Micheals Story

Two years ago Michael Hannan found himself at a crossroad. He wasn’t old enough to retire, yet his body was telling him it was time to slow down. After major surgery Michael knew his heart wouldn’t hold-up to the stress of full-time employment for much longer. So after 30 years in the workforce he left his job at the Belmont Sport and Recreation Centre to take time out.

But like many people who’ve spent their life working, his plan didn’t last long! Soon he was looking for a new challenge, and after calling Volunteers WA for advice, Michael was introduced to the MS Society.

Michael volunteers his time in the mailroom, helping to fold, stuff, and sort the thousands of mail items sent to the MS Society’s wide network of Members, sponsors and supporters every week. He says working at the MS Society gives him a sense of purpose.

“I’ve met lots of new people, made many friends, and I think the work we do does make a difference. We work hard and we get the job done. But it’s good. The MS Society looks after us and they appreciate the work we do. I’ll be going there every week for as long as I’m able. I love it!”

If you would like to volunteer your time and support the MS Society, contact Suzanne Bradbury on 9365 4844.
